From the Smiths Falls & District Chamber of Commerce to Lanark County Tourism, Vanessa Dow brings more than 20 years of experience in tourism to her role as tourism coordinator with Lanark County Tourism and as board member with the Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO) Board of Directors.

“I’m originally from the Northwest Territories but I’ve lived in Lanark County for more than 20 years and I love it here,” said Vanessa. “As the tourism coordinator for Lanark County, I focus on enhancing visitor experiences, driving tourism growth and supporting local business."

It is the natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and unique attractions in Ontario’s Highlands that Vanessa loves the most about the region. Vanessa was inspired to join OHTO’s Board of Directors in the hopes of contributing to the strategic direction and growth of the region’s tourism industry.

“I believe in the immense potential of Ontario’s Highlands as a top tourism destination and am eager to collaborate with other dedicated individuals to drive positive change and promote sustainable tourism practices," said Vanessa.

Vanessa brings a wealth of skills and knowledge to the OHTO board, including a deep understanding of visitor needs and a steadfast commitment to enhancing the tourism experience. Her expertise lies in strategic planning, community engagement, and identifying growth opportunities and innovative solutions for tourism.

“It’s exciting to be part of an organization that shares my excitement about promoting and developing Ontario’s Highlands as a tourism destination,” said Vanessa.

Vanessa’s advice for anyone considering applying to the OHTO Board of Directors is that anyone who has a passion for tourism is already well-suited for the role.

“The board values diverse perspectives and experiences, and everyone’s unique background can contribute to the collective goal,” said Vanessa. “Don’t underestimate the value of your insights and contributions. The most important qualities are a willingness to learn, collaborate, and work towards enhancing the tourism experience in the region.”
