As we approach World Tourism Day (Sept. 27, 2024) we are looking forward to joining the celebration of tourism in Ontario, Canada, and around the world. Here at the Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO), tourism is what we think about all day long, day after day after day!  

This is why we committed to sponsoring Destination Think’s 100 Travel Innovations, launching on World Tourism Day, Sept. 27, 2024 and running until Dec. 31, 2024. OHTO's spotlight for the event is found under the category of Responsible Tourism, and features Haliburton Bike Share, a Haliburton Rotary Club project investment to purchase six, seven-speed bicycles, docking rack, and accessories for Haliburton visitors to borrow at no cost.  

100 Travel Innovations spotlights forward-thinking solutions to pressing issues like biodiversity, climate resilience, cultural preservation, and community prosperity—challenges that will shape the future of tourism in Ontario’s Highlands. Our sponsorship reflects our dedication to ensuring tourism remains a force for good, both globally and locally.  

The campaign launches with a 24 Hours of Travel Innovation special event, and includes 24 hours of video presentations about the latest innovations for tourism, travel and communities. Attendees are also invited for an exclusive film premier of Travel Beyond. This event is free, and participants are able to access 24 hours of presentations featuring a variety of responsible tourism topics until October 3.

The next three months will be a time of increased online conversation related to responsible travel. We encourage you to highlight your stewardship efforts through your own online storytelling throughout the campaign period, and by using the hashtag #WanderSustainably and tagging Ontario's Highlands.
