Rural communities are often overlooked when examining the diverse richness of the performing arts in Canada and what the business of performing arts can do to reinvigorate community and encourage economic development.

SPARC’s aim is to bring together rural creators, producers, presenters and animateurs to initiate a dialogue about how to develop and sustain the performing arts in rural communities through the creation of a network. SPARC believes that we are all learners and we all have knowledge to share.



At the 2014 SPARC Symposium in April, MPP Laurie Scott announced funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for $105,400 for SPARC. This funding allowed SPARC to support over 15 Youth from across Ontario to attend and participate in the Youth Caucus at the Symposium. It also gave SPARC the opportunity to explore the formation of a Rural Arts Performing Network by providing financial support for a one-year network coordinator position and a Network Summit. The Network Summit, November 14th-16th 2014, will allow creators, producers and presenters in the performing arts (music, theatre, media arts, dance) to impact and inform the SPARC network model and its activities.

The Network Summit will take place in the Haliburton Highlands at the lovely Bonnie View Inn. Those wishing to attend the Network Summit must apply – spaces are limited. Like the SPARC Symposium, Youth (age 16-29) are an important part to the Network Summit. Youth can apply or be nominated using the application form.
