Happy Holidays from the OHTO!: December 2014 Board Chair Address

Greetings from the Chair!

During this holiday season, I’ve been reflecting on what is important to me. My conclusions center on the fact that family and friends – the very definition of “community” – are what matter most. It’s an obvious, perhaps cliché statement, but one that I need to remind myself in the hustle and bustle of a busy life.

Our rural experience throughout the Ontario’s Highlands embodies the definition of “community” for me, and our efforts to retain the vibrancy of our communities are integral to their survival. For me, tourism is not simply about an industry or an economy. It’s about inviting and welcoming people to a land that we’re proud of and a way of life that we want to retain. Visitors can help us do that, of course through their tourism dollars, but also through sharing with us an understanding of the value of the rural experience and all it has to offer.

So as you enjoy the holiday season with your loved ones, I hope we can all look forward to sharing the bounties of our beautiful region with our friends, old and new.

Season’s Greetings!
