Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization has an immediate opening for a Social Media Brand Ambassador.
Ontario’s Highlands is one of Ontario’s most unique, scenic and emerging tourist regions, located just 30 minutes west of Ottawa and 2.5 hours east of Toronto, with the Ottawa River on our northern border and the province of Quebec just minutes away. We work in collaboration with six regional tourism partners to showcase the region and the best that Ontario’s Highlands has to offer visitors.

Go on the ultimate Ontario’s Highlands Road Trip and Brag About It!
As the official Brand Ambassador for our region, your job (if you can call it a job) is to create your Great Escape and explore all of our region’s destinations, events, festivals and activities throughout the summer months. You will create destination content throughout your travels and share it through our blog, website and social media channels.
As the voice of our region, you are an enthusiastic adventurer at heart and live and breathe social media, including blogging, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and more. While you possess a professional and dedicated approach to work, you are driven with a sense of curiosity, can take an idea and run with it (literally, we have a lot of ground to cover) and possess outstanding communication skills. It goes without saying that you also possess a balance of wit and charm and understand the need to diligently practice professional self-censorship, in 140 characters or less, of course.
You will also be responsible for planning your ultimate summer road trip. You will be required to research and make suggestions on destinations within Ontario’s Highlands to visit, listen to suggestions from our Facebook Fans on the hidden gems, and communicate with our partners about the promotional opportunities and booking of logistics.
If you can work within a team environment under minimal supervision and know which end of a zip line is up (that’s a trick question), we’d love to hear from you. - Enrolled in a journalism, marketing, public relations, or social media related university or college program
- Demonstrated understanding of advanced social media practices and techniques
- Highly organized and can work on tight timelines
- A keen interest to learn new things, explore the unexplored, and communicate your experiences
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Can work under minimal supervision but still take direction and produce a high quality of work
The Fine Details
This is a full time position commencing May 1, 2014 and wrapping up August 31, 2014. Your work week will be a combination of weekend road trips and logistical planning, organizing, and communicating through social media during the week.
The successful applicant will receive a salary of $7,500 and all costs associated with your Great Escape will be covered.
