Packaging your Product: May 2013 Board Chair Address

Greetings from the Chair!

Now that weather tide has indeed turned, it’s time to focus our attention to the opening of our summer season in Ontario’s Highlands.  I continue to enjoy discussing with folks across the region how we can work together to develop and market all that our region has to offer.

Many of you attended the packaging workshops presented by the OHTO over the winter months, and I look forward to seeing new and returning packages on the OHTO website as a result of these workshops. For those who haven’t yet broached the subject of packaging, it’s not too late to develop your own package with partners in your community.  It only takes one or two people to get the ball rolling, and to become champions in package development.

The OHTO has all the resources you need to get started.  Call 613-629-6486 or email the office, or visit the package section of ohto.ca for all the tools you need.  You can also visit the package booking engine on the Ontario’s Highlands consumer website to see the list of packages currently on offer, which will help inspire you to create your own!

When developing your packages, keep in mind that we are focusing on the concept of “experiential” packaging.  Simply providing an attraction, meal and accommodation is sometimes not enough for today’s consumer.  Visitors to our region want to hear our stories, experience our local culture and come away with unforgettable memories.

As well, packaging today is not about discounts – it’s about value.  Provide the customer with one-of-a-kind experiences that they perceive are worth their time and money, and they will come back for more.

Happy packaging everyone!

Sincerely,

Laurel Smith
