Media Advisory: Motorcycle Tourism Experts Roll into the Highlands

Pembroke, ON. May 27, 2013 – The Ontario Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO) has been working hard to bring motorcycle tourism to the region in conjunction with local tourism offices. BC Hughes Tourism Consultants was hired by OHTO in January to assist in developing motorcycle routes and inventorying motorcycle friendly accommodations, attractions and restaurants. BC Hughes is Ontario’s foremost motorcycle route developer, having assisted with route creation and operator coaching across the province and the Northern United States.

Co-owner, and rider Chris Hughes will be hitting the road with motorcycle travel writer and video blogger Michael Jacobs, from June 3-11. The duo will test the routes and site visit all motorcycle approved operators. “We will be visiting over 120 operators and attractions in nine days,” said Hughes. “Every operator has already been scored using a checklist to ensure motorcycle friendliness and a perfect fit for the routes.  Visiting in person allows us to give them tips, specific to their business, on the simple things riders are looking for.”

While visiting operators, Chris and Mike will also be creating content for future promotional tactics by filming interviews with operators and riding footage of the most scenic roads.

This process is part of a long-term strategy to make Ontario’s Highlands a must ride motorcycle destination in Ontario.

The OHTO is a not-for-profit organization mandated by the Province of Ontario to increase tourism within the counties of Haliburton, Lanark, and Renfrew and portions of Frontenac, Hastings, and Lennox and Addington. The OHTO works in collaboration with eight sub-regional marketing organizations, tourism agencies and authorities including: Algonquin Nation, Bancroft & District Chamber of Commerce, ComfortCountry.ca, Haliburton Highlands, Lanark County Tourism, Land O’ Lakes Tourist Association, Ottawa Valley Tourist Association, and the Rideau Heritage Route Tourism Association.
