The Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO) held their first annual Tourism Conference at the River’s Edge Golf and Country Club in Bancroft on Wednesday, October 26, 2011. This landmark event marked the first anniversary of the OHTO, and focused on using digital assets to increase tourism. Seminars designed to help local businesses improve their online presence through Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and online packaging were delivered in the afternoon. The day also included the launch of the innovative new Ontario’s Highlands regional travel website at http://ontarioshighlands.ca, and a draw for one lucky attendee to win an iPad 2, which was won by Mike Beeston from Canadian Radio Syndications.

Industry Stakeholders Survey Results:

At the Tourism Conference, attendees were encouraged to complete an Industry Stakeholders Survey to assist the OHTO in achieving a better understanding of the needs of the local tourism industry. The results were compiled and are available here.

Window Clings:

Ontario’s Highlands window clings were distributed to all attendees at the Tourism Conference. These window clings feature the Ontario’s Highlands logo and website URL, as well as a QR code that can be scanned with a smartphone which brings the user directly to the Ontario’s Highlands website. OHTO members are encouraged to display this window cling in the windows of their business. Directions for use:

  • Remove protective backing & place on window.
  • Can also be used on multiple surfaces (windows, drywall, wood, etc.)
  • Non-adhesive & reusable.
  • Will cling on either side (front or back).

 

OHTO Video Program:

The Tourism Conference marked the official launch of the OHTO’s online videos, which are now available on the Ontario’s Highlands YouTube channel. These videos were produced by Crowe Productions to highlight both the Ontario’s Highlands region as a tourist destination and the OHTO as an organization.

Members are encouraged not only to view the complete selection of videos, but to share them on their websites as a means of encouraging visitors to come to the area. YouTube offers an easy, built-in tool to embed videos on websites. Click here for step-by-step directions.
