Developing Online Assets

The online audience is an essential element of today’s tourism marketplace. Whether looking up last minute information on the go or researching potential destinations for a trip before it happens, it is essential to have online information available for the traveller.

The OHTO has already started addressing this uniquely modern necessity. The OHTO has just launched this website, at ohto.ca. The first phase is an industry-facing website that will act as a hub of the OHTO’s tourism community. It is a one-stop resource for all OHTO information, as well as a database of all regional tourism operators.

This phase will provide the framework for a more marketing focused website scheduled for development Spring 2011. The OHTO is exploring itinerary creation, online booking, and virtual tours with the intent to make it as easy as possible for consumers to choose Ontario’s Highlands for their next vacation.

Additionally, the OHTO is working on creating a mobile application (app) for smartphones. The primary theme of the app is to welcome visitors to the region in a unique, fun, and interactive way, while giving them a portable resource that will allow them to have access to local destination information, wherever their travels may take them.

The app will feature the regional tourism operators that have signed up at ohto.ca, and the website will act as a hub for operators to update their information across all media. The app will also allow operators to offer coupons to users, which will act as an incentive for the users to visit the businesses and attractions.

The OHTO has also successfully secured a place on ontariotravel.net, the official website of Ontario tourism, and number one Google search result for “Ontario travel”. When the newly redesigned site launches late spring, visitors will be able to search the different subsections of the OHTO’s region, and see the top must-sees and must-dos of the area, as well as be able to click to sites with more information.
